The announcement of competition promoted by the Society of Fine Arts, under the sponsorship of the Milan's City Council is an initiative aimed at studying the problems of present-day sculpture and its forms, related to the urban context. Public squares, gardens, green areas and parks are becoming places where sculptors are very involved in planning and designing their own works, sometimes availing themselves of the collaboration of an architect.
The contest is divided in two sections: the first one is conceived for well-known architects with a larger experience, the second one for young and promising artists.
The panel charged of the works' selection is chaired by Giulio Gallera, coordinator of the project, and formed by the Maestro Arnaldo Pomodoro, art critics Elisabetta Longari and Francesco Poli, architect Matteo Poli, Assessor for Green Areas Maurizio Cadeo and Alberto Veca, Councellor at the Society for Fine Arts and Permanent Exhibition.
The closing of the event will take place together with a big exhibition at the Permanent Exhibition Museum, where the selected works can be admired after an introductive section consisting in a discussion about the different phases of Milan's sculpture history, from the 50's till today: creating a dialogue between different generations, different ways of expression, different forms and materials is one of the main purposes of this event.
